Just as I like it ... a stress free afternoon. I guess this is one of the easiest posts to write because I thought Rafa was simply phenomenal in his semi-final yesterday. What else is there to say really? If there was one blip, I was just sad that he lost a service game in the second set and so it wasn't quite the perfect match. But it wasn't far short.
I know the commies were full of "he's back" and their blah, blah, blah that goes with it, but seeing as I'm full of theories this year and looking back to the past for patterns, how about this one. Rafa just somehow has to get himself to the weekend of a tournament because that's when he clicks and that's when he plays his most sensational stuff. Look at Madrid last year, and Rome in particular. In Rome, he was just amazing, but in both tournaments he could have so easily gone out before the weekend. And as we have seen this year, this time he has. But with a bit of luck due to what has happened with the draw in Madrid, Rafa's been able to play himself into his best tennis. And I don't believe it's a case of him being "back" any more. I think we need to learn to accept a different Rafa. A man with 10 seasons at the top and all the mileage and injury that has gone with it. A man still playing with the fear of expectation and needing to get those matches under his belt before he's ever truly able to play his best tennis.
He needs time to get going in a tournament these days. Sometimes he'll get it, sometimes he won't. But when he does like yesterday ... WOW.
Good luck in the final today Rafa. We'll be VAMOSSSSing!!
