You'll all be pleased to know that I had a much more stress-free time watching Rafa last night. Obviously in Richard Gasquet, he had an opponent that can play as well as he can play, he can mix it up a little to try and give Rafa some tests, but eventually he falters because Rafa is by far the better and fitter player, and Gasquet just doesn't have the weapons to hurt him.
Equally, Sky Sports had Peter Fleming and Mark Petchy commentating on the match, the Ying to the other set of tools' Yang in that they (a) actually commentate on what they see before them; (b) are pragmatic about both players; (c) don't descend into apoplectic giggles and glee at the thought of Rafa being in trouble in a match and best of all; (d) actually stay SILENT for appropriate periods during the rallies so that the viewer can get into the match and simply enjoy the play!
:)
So Rafa disposed of Richard in a fairly routine 6-4, 6-1 fashion and now faces David Ferrer in the semi-final today. Now we're quite used to Daveed eventually getting over-awed when playing Rafa and eventually losing. But he has pushed him on more than occasion this year and indoors ... well, let's say that it wouldn't surprise me if Daveed actually managed to get a set. I am hopeful for Rafa though. Anyhow, sadly as Fed and the PoD can't both lose, I'll have to brace me-self for that being in that awful position of actually hoping that Federer wins.
Toodles folks! And VAMOS RAFA!!
