Rafa's first round opponent was the American, Michael Russell. A veteran even ... but it was Rafa who was the one that made a nervy start and fell behind to 2-4 in the opening set, until the colm set in.
From that point, it became a pretty routine 6-4, 6-2, 6-2 victory and some of Rafa's play was absolutely lovely ... the shot of the day being his cross court forehand ... absolutely beautiful.
I think he loved being the first one on the fresh court, a proud day for him and the family ... but sentiment put aside, he had a very nice opening match - unlike the French - so more of that, please Rafa. ;)
