To say I've let my blogging activities slide of late is an understatement. During Monte Carlo week, poor old Wooffs wasn't well ... aww. Then I had the collapse of my underground soil pipe to cope with ... phewweee ... and then horror of all horrors ... my laptop got infected by a virus and had to go to the kindly souls of PC World for a clean up.
So it was with great remiss of me to pass up on the reporting of the phoenix-like return of Rafa - back at home on his beloved red dirt - notwithstanding the fact that our lovely Denzy was there to experience it all. 10 sightings, 3 autographs and the ripping of my beloved and loaned gold dress. *fume*
He was in devastating form to make his way to the final via the following route:
De Bakker - 6-1, 6-0
Berrer - 6-0, 6-1
Ferrero - 6-4, 6-2
Ferrer - 6-2, 6-3
And so it tuned out that he faced fellow country-man Fernando Verdasco in the final.
He dispatched of Nando in an emphatic scoreline - 6-0, 6-1, however, I think it entirely fair to say that the scoreline did not reflect the true nature of the match. Nando took Rafa close in points in several games and put up a much better account of himself than the records will show.
But the sheer happiness and joy etched over Rafa as he fell onto the floor in victory was matched by the sheer happiness and joy we, as his fans, have felt for him. Its been a long road for Rafa ... almost 12 months since his last victory and the desperate times he's had to go through both professionally and personally.
Don't worry ... he is Nadal. And he's BACK !!
