And so to Rome ...

Rome ... the mere mention of its name makes my soul sing. I still consider it to be my favourite of all cities and to think that on this particular visit, I was going to enjoy the wonder of it all capped off with going to the Foro Italico to watch the Rome Masters. Bellissimo!!

To say we had to hold on breath on getting there is an understatement. Two weeks previously, Denzy reported on Rafa being on the practice court with a bandage on his knee and a temper vented at Toni, the likes of which we don't often see. Our worries as to his fitness were rife, but fortunately they proved to be unfounded.

So if Rafa's fitness couldn't get us, what else was there that could? I'll tell you what ... a huge volcanic eruption all the way up in Iceland that spat out its ash out to reek chaos across Europe's air space as airport after airport closed for business. Poor old Denzy was caught up in it all in Monte Carlo and ultimately had to forego her Rome trip as we conducted our daily prayer in the hope that it would lift before we were due to fly.

Fortunately for us it did ... and the air space was open up again for business on the Thursday before we flew that weekend. On the very last morning at home, 3 of us took receipt of our Rafa t-shirts and therefore that was us ... we were ready ... we were off to Roma !!!

The adventures of myself, Rafan, Clare and Debs were captured on a daily basis on the Rafateer thread that brought us all together. As I'm a sentimental old soul and like to keep the memories going as and how they happened, the following blogs will be extracts from the thread as we recounted our daily memories leading to the ultimate prize ... Rafa.
