Party Pants shimmers through the first round ...

Rafa's opening match was in those deep early hours of my morning so I didn't watch it live, but must say I enjoyed watching the above highlights ... notwithstanding the Russian commentary which I found rather soxy.  Grr ...

It was nice to wake up to see a straight sets victory result and a pretty decent scoreline, but then I wasn't too nervous about Youzhny because he's the kind of guy who would have wanted to play tennis and not "the match of his life" by hitting bombs and painting lines and getting spurred on by cocky, arrogant adrenaline.

Two observations spring to mind ... the serve looked good and the forehand was working pretty damn well.  Oh how I've missed those trade down-the-line curlers that Rafa hits so well.

So all in all a more than satisfactory start I think.

Rafa next plays Tim Smyczek.  Quite.  I've never heard of him either.  And that makes me a little bit more nervous because this guy may be one of those that will play "the match of his life" by hitting bombs and painting lines and getting spurred on by cocky, arrogant adrenaline.  But ... we take it as we come.  Bring on the second round!!
