"We're leaving Wimbledon. I want to thank your incredible support, both when things work out and when they don't."
You're welcome Rafa.
Rafa was the first thing I thought about when I woke up this morning ... as he was with all my other Rafateer pals. I still felt sad for his loss and sad for him, but as we are constantly reminded ... he quickly gets over it and moves on. We feel emotive because that's what fans do, even though our rational selves know we shouldn't. Rafa is a very happy person, living a charmed life doing the thing he loves doing the most. And it's not the be-all and end-all of his life - he's about much more than that. He has his great times and he has his bad, but either way he just heads quietly back home to the people who love him and he's OK.
You won't find Rafa walking the streets of Wimbledon village two days after a defeat in the vein hope that someone recognises him and he can have a picture taken with a child so that it finds it's way into the social media. Smugly's ego feeds off constant stroking and adoration and nothing other than that defines him. He lives for it, and will never be able to let it go. And then you have the Prince of Darkness who is sooooo desperate to be loved that he'll try any antic for attention and to be noticed, but he'll never get it.
No ... back to the bosom of his family is enough for Rafa, and that's why he is so utterly adorable.
Of course the Next Big Thing bombed straight out of Wimbledon today. Who didn't see that happening? And by all accounts he hadn't quite pumped himself up to the levels of yesterday. Well, they never do, do they? They just treat it like any other match. As I've said a million times, if you're going to do all you can to turn yourself into an neanderthal to beat Rafa, have the good grace to try it again the next day and succeed in what comes next. Otherwise a loss is a loss is a loss ... isn't it?
Wimbledon now goes from bad to worse. Sue Barker is wetting her knickers; Boris Becker goes running to change the PoD's shoes. We're subjected to seeing the odious Ljubicic on our screens and frankly ... only Grigor can save tennisssss now.
Or pictures of Rafa on a jetski ... *winks*
