I'll be honest. After watching Rafa play Wawrinka, when he seemed to fall back into all those tired, bad habits of old that we've seen so many times from him at this time of year (with reason) ... I didn't hold much hope of thinking he could win this tournament.
And then we got the first set last night.
Wowsers!! That's the best set of tennis I've seen him play since the US season. Fabulous, and I enjoyed every minute of it.
And then we got the second set.
From playing like a man possessed, he was 5-0 down. How? How did that happen?? Well, his serve went AWOL, Rolf found his, but towards the end of the set, Rafa seemed to slowly be getting back into it. In a fairly even third set, I still never had that sick feeling in my tummy, and when Rolf was serving at 4-5 down and aided by a couple of DFs, Rafa got match points. And won it by a simply stunning forehand. Fab-u-lous!!
So in front of the whole Nadal clan, Rafa is now in the semi's and ready to rumble. We still wait to see whether he'll face Smugly or Sexy Boy JMDP, but if he can bring it as he did in the first set, I'm getting slightly more hopeful. VAMOS!!
