51 and counting, Rafa. Congratulations honey ...
I've felt this a bit of a difficult week. I've bothered about Rafa's attitude, he's been a break down in the final set, I missed a match through rubbish streams and was subjected to the worst commentator Tennis TV could ever produce. And to hear Rafa say that yesterday was the worst day for his knee ... well, it's been tough.
Rafa even (maybe typically) put himself at second favourite for today's match ... but I agreed with him. And sure, David Nalbandian isn't exactly playing at the best level himself, but for once ... I was glad.
At 2-2 in the first set, Rafa roared winning 4 straight games to take it. But if anyone ever thought we could sit back and relax, well hey, a familiar dip on the Rafarollercoaster saw him down a double break and that sick feeling returned to my tummy. But with a helping hand by Carlos Bernados, who wound Rafa up to a top, saw him defiantly go on a six game tear and with it, he took the match.
After the longest ceremony in tennis history, Rafa was finally handed that trophy and typical of him, he's also out of practice with handling them too, and after a lift, a drop and lift again, he did his customary bite. Vamos!!
A week's rest and on to Acapulco. He'll face bigger challenges in Mexico, so we'll have to see how it goes. But today's a great start - he's a winner again - that must feel absolutely great for him. I kind of enjoyed it a bit myself. ;)
Keep going Rafa ... VAMOS!!!
Two tournaments. One final and one trophy. Not too shabby for a guy written off by so many. Vamos Rafa!!! Get lots of rest and enjoy a couple of days off.
