Back to winning ways ...

Well ... it was a shaky and nervoos start by Rafa in his match today against Federico Delbonis.

He lost his opening service game, went 2-1 down but managed to break back to make it 2-2. A break at 4-3 meant that Rafa was to serve out a pretty rusty and not very convincing first set. The second though seemed a lot different. He raced to a 3-0 lead, till service games won meant that Rafa served it out at 5-2 up and won the second set and the match, 6-2.

Some observations.

Very nervoos at the start of the match - to be expected, huh?
When at the back of the court, he barely ran a ball down that took an extreme effort to reach.
He averaged 18 seconds between points. I SAT THERE LIKE A SAD ARTICLE AND SET THE STOPWATCH !! Dear God, what will the commies think of that??
His opponent got the time warning. :D :D :D
Did he play that many down-the-line forehands last year? Or have I just been missing him playing?
Boy ... do I love that shot.
Short shorts are fab.
He wore a t-shirt and not a hideous polo shirt. *happydance* *yahoo*
He's got his 2008 swagger on. The bigger upper body build, his lovely face. *thud*
He doesn't have a single thing to prove to anyone. Not me, not you, not the tennis world, not the tennis critics, not the hatahs, not Sue Barker, not Seiko, not Rolex. He's Rafael Nadal. And he's been to 7 Slam finals on clay, 5 Slam finals on grass and 4 Slam finals on hardcourts. Stick to what you know best, Rafa and to whatever makes you happy.

And my final comment ... SUCK ON THAT, PETER BODO!! Tosser.

Phew.

Rafa plays either Albert Montanes or Daniel Gimeno Traver in his next match.

  1. Bless your heart, dear. You got it abso right. He need prove nothing to anyone, most especially PB and the judgmental "fans" who criticized every movement in their zeal for a magical match. If he is happy, I am happy. I just pray for healthy knees and no injuries. Anything more--is gravy.
    That said--VAMOS RAFA SIEMEPRE!

  3. I would just like to say that he doesn't have to prove anything to me either. And I second everything you said, including your last - er, comment :)
