Toni gave an interview last night on the Canal channel. To be honest, I don't have anything other than soundbites, but Toni confirmed that the recovery was going well, only that it was a little slow. Remember that Rafa recently had his wisdom teeth removed? Well, it appears that he contracted an infection after this, and they had to stop the treatment he was having on his knee because of it. Also, the fat on Rafa's knee (the Hoffa fat tissue) has hardened, so they're having to wait a little while until it softens up ... I'm assuming before they can carry on treating it.
But Toni has revealed the news we've all been long suspecting ... that it will be tough for them to make it to the World Tour Finals in London. However, they expect to be back at the Australian Open after having two months' of practice under their belts.
Toni sensibly completely ruled out any suggestion that the injury could lead to Rafa's retirement, and that the time off will be good for recuperating and regenerating his whole body. Sadly Toni said that Rafa has played in a great deal of pain since 2005. *sniff*
And speaking of *shh* - that thing that we don't mention - you know, Rafa's [retirement] it seems that the "journalist" - Jon Wertheim - has a direct link into Rafa's "camp" who - according to him - are targeting Rio 2016 as the place where Rafa will finally hang up those treasured piratas.
Pfft is all I can say. Like any such retirement notion would be delivered to a Sports Illustrated journalist. And who would even say this in Rafa's "camp"? Wertheim would probably get more gossip from a Boys' Scout Camp than Rafa's ...
you crack me up! But you're correct, why would Rafa's camp release something to Wertheim? bullhockey, I say. After I read his article, I actually started counting up how many matches that we'd probably get to see Rafa play. Then, I smacked myself upside the head & woke up.
ReplyDeleteHe was in a nightmare and confused Rafa with Roger -- a little transference out of a panic attack over his idol.
