The net on the Centre Court is lowered and Wimbledon will once again return to its traditional purple and green and the all-white rule for the players.
For completeness, I'm ending this AramadaWatch with the messages that David and Feli put out to each other and the world following their heartbreaking loss in the battle for the bronze medal.
David thanked Feli for the experience although they didn't win a medal ... Feli told him that it was worth fighting for by his side.
*wipes tear*
I won't forget Feli's tears under the towel when they won to play in the semi-final and the chance to fight for Gold. For Feli, I think this was the first time he had ever passed the quarters in a major competition to give himself a chance. And for both of them who have now retired from Davis Cup competition, it was their last time wearing the red and yellow, the shirts of Spain. And the last time they will ever play in the Olympics ...
I think that after they lost that first set on Saturday in a tie-breaker, they found little left in the tank after that epic semi-final on Friday. Such a shame for the boys to come away with nothing, but they should take immense pride in their contribution, and it certainly gave me something to watch in this year's tennis Olympics.
Thanks for the ride, boys!! VAMOS!!
GRACIAS@davidferrer87 GRACIAS Alex Corretja GRACIAS a toda ESPAÑA x el apoyo!El palo fue duro pero merecio la pena luchar a vuestro lado

Well, I don't think they really retired, as much as said they wouldn't be playing this year in DC. Then, Rafa said the same thing but was ready to play early this year anyway, and will apparently play in the semis. So I don't think we can trust them not to play, lol.
ReplyDeleteFair comment. Feli is 31 next month and Daveed 30, but I think he's still proved his worth as a singles player this year, so if called upon, could do it. Fantastic as Feli's journey was with Daveed in doubles, I doubt he would make it back in the DC team. I think perhaps using the word "retired" was a bit previous of me though, although their experience with Spain is winding down.
