Well the pattern of Rafa's post French Open/early 250 series grass tournie practice came to its usual end before the start of the weekend. Apart from that marvellous 2008 Queens campaign where "The Smile" won over thousands of new fans, the mental strain and bodily tiredness of a packed clay court season once again came into play for Rafa today.
He lost his third round encounter 6-3, 6-4, to Philip Kohlschreiber. Undeterred, Rafa posed by a duck pond for Facebook and said a quick "Auf Wiedersehen" to Germany whilst he leaves Feds to pirouette his way through this most "prestigious" of tournaments in pursuit of his own #HI6TORY (credit to @PseudoFed for the new #hashtag tonight ... hilarious!).
So Rafa ... take a couple of days off, get some rest, and come back in fighting fashion for my favourite tournament (sorry folks, I'm English, I'm biased) ... Wimbledon!!
Sadly, I won't be going this year. I did get tickets in the ballot, but they were for Court 1 on men's semi-finals day when all the action is happening elsewhere. If I'd had a sniff of actually seeing Rafa play, then I would have been there like a shot, but the best I would get is practice (if he was still in the competition), and the cost of travel and hotels when my Mum was unavailable to come with me, outweighed a trip there this year. At least I still have the Olympics to look forward to.
But not to worry, this little blog will still have some Wimbledon exclusives because ...
RAFAN IS GOING TO JOIN THE WIMBLEDON QUEUE TO GO CAMPING FOR RAFA!!! *yahoo*
So stay tuned, because we will have all her reports (can't WAIT) and of course, her wonderful pictures to enjoy.
So see you soon, Rafa. Next stop ... ENG-ER-LAND !!!
Some of today's match highlights ...
