Excuse the pun ... and Rafa didn't quite batter him, did he?
He started off brilliantly as Mardy Fish was hopeless with nerves in the first set, improved a little in the second, but Rafa raced away with both by a 6-3, 6-3 scoreline in about an hour and a quarter ... unheard of. And seemingly when Rafa had a routine victory in the bag, what did he go and do? Only lose his serve when he was serving to take the third into a tie-breaker and so Fish was back in the match curtesy of a 7-5 scoreline.
But Rafa broke early in the fourth which he held on to and so ran out the winner by a 6-4 scoreline.
He's receiving numbing anaesthetic to that foot so he doesn't feel anything, so hopefully this drastic treatment will keep him going in the tournie. He will need it ... a tough prospect ahead in Andy Murray who I wager will be a bit better than he was last year. Its going to be hard, its going to be tense, but come on Rafa ... you can DO it!!
