In his first round match, Rafa faced a qualifier from Rome, Paolo Lorenzi. Easy, huh? Not a bit of it. The worst thing is that I'm sitting at my desk whilst the match is being played. I'm supposed to pretend to be working, whilst flicking on LiveScores, whilst emailing Rafan, whilst reading what everyone is saying on the Rafateer thread and adding to it.
No wonder my brain gets frazzled. And when Rafa is playing dire and you are sick to your stomach with nerves and worn out with stress ... pure torture!
By all accounts he was utterly dreadful in the first set, even though he got a break. I've only managed to see a little bit so far and I can't believe that was our Rafa out there on one of his favourite courts. I think he was suffering a bit today as it was his friend Seve's funeral, but he just looks worn out to me.
He lost the first set on a tie-breaker, managed to win the second, and romped away with the third. He won 6-7, 6-4, 6-0. He faces Feli tomorrow, and would I bother if I went home. Only because I couldn't STAND seeing that cocky face of Djokovic's if he were to win it ... but who gives a stuff about the No. 1 ranking now. He needs to be in the best possible shape for the French Open. Maybe Feds had it right after all ...

Here's some snippets from the third set ... not sure we want to see the others.
