Blogger was down for a couple of days, so you weren't able to read the previously prepared controlled rant that I made about Rafa turning out to play this match. He was 16 minutes late, and the reason being was that he had a fever. David Ferrer had one the previous day - and pulled out - but not our Rafa, who took to the court to play his match with Feli and I was furious. Furious that he would potentially exhaust himself over some mindless 1000 series with the French Open just knocking at the door. And so was Toni, so it turned out, and the pair barely looked at each other throughout the match. But as our Rafateer friend Womble said ... this sort of thing is the down-side of the "never say die" attitude that our Rafa has.
Luckily for Rafa, vintage Feli turned up, and not the one that has been playing so well over these past few weeks. I guess Feli just can't mentally get over the fact that he's playing the best clay courter in the world, and if he knew of Rafa's illness, he didn't take best advantage of it.
Rafa won the match 6-4, 6-2.
He ended up feeling really ill in the afternoon after the match, but made a vow that he would see how he felt in the morning and if OK, he would play, and if not, it would be bye bye till the French Open. See above to find out what that result was ...
