It was hardly a match really. Marcos Daniel seemed to turn up to it injured and took a 6-0 first set tonking which lasted about 19 minutes. Rafa broke straight away in the second, and then - as what sometimes happens - he lost his focus, and his timing, and the second game saw him face match points and it took an eternity till he finally took it.
At 5-0 down in the second, Daniel called it a day ... and Toni sent Rafa out to the practice courts to work on his serve. *laugh* America's Ryan Sweeting is his next opponent.
Probably the highlight of Rafa's first match was his on-court interview with the marvellous Jim Courier, followed by this studio interview where Rafa is just nothing other than a complete and utter sweetheart. He really is such a special guy and a great champion ... Credit to NadalNews for bringing it to us ...
