One of Rafa's many endearing friendships is that with fellow Mallorcan, Carlos Moya. Rafa has known him since he was a kid, and I have absolutely no doubt that he looks up to him and respects him as a fellow professional player, along with that as a man.
Carlos today announced his retirement from tennis as he is unable to recover from a long standing foot injury, and fittingly, he spent his last day as a professional by being Rafa's hitting partner yesterday before Rafa set off for London and the WTF. Carlos is a former World Number 1, a former French Open champion and has won 20 career titles. In a strange twist, Carlos is the natural left hander, but played with his right ... our lovely Rafa being the natural right hander, playing with his left.
I think the most endearing thing about these two is how they show their closeness and obvious affection ... one of Rafa's famous bromances. Carlos became a father to a little girl in August, so no doubt family life will take over for a while.
