All smiles against Simon ...

It was announced a couple of days before the match that Rafa's opponent - Gilles Simon - had become a father a month early, and in spite of him coming through against Kohlschreiber, Simon had to face a match against Rafa before being able to fly away and see his new son, Timothee. (Why he wanted to call him after a shampoo, I don't know ... but there you go).

Rafa was effective in the first two sets, winning them 6-4, 6-4. However, after finding himself two sets down, it was kind of inevitable that Simon lost a bit of heart and Rafa ran out in the third, 6-2.
