Rafa's uncle and coach - Toni Nadal - has given an interview which appears in today's "La Marca". He discusses Rafa's progress and their thoughts for the immediate future.

Once again, not an awful lot of information is given away, but I'm hearing positive and sensible stuff from Team Nadal.

"Rafa Does Not Have Pressue to Recover the No.1"

Toni Nadal, as is his nephew, is happy with the result of the medical tests that Rafa took in Barcelona under the supervision of Ángel Ruiz Cotorro, the personal doctor of the Mallorcan. He noted that deadlines have to be met and ruled out Nadal returning before the Masters 1000 in Montreal and said that there is no pressure felt to recapture the No.1 Roger Federer snatched from him after winning Wimbledon.

The uncle and coach of the World No.2 analysed in the programe "Direct Marca" of "RadioMarca" how his nephew is now, stating that "the tests that Rafa submitted were satisfactory and the good news is they are following the targets predicted by the doctors" that have marked the return of Rafa to training next Monday. "The important thing is to go slowly, watch the development and finish the recovery", said Toni, who confirmed that Rafa is not yet 100%.

Concerning the expected schedule for the next dates, Toni ruled out "playing in Hamburg because it is unnecessary effort. It may happen, but we believe that the conditions of Montreal are better and this is the tournament we have set for the return". A Canadian tournament, that Rafa won last year. "We have not changed the initial calendar, although we have been deprived of playing imporant tournaments- Rafa has lost Queens and Wimbledon, as well as the quarterfinals of the Davis Cup. Now he will do the best he can for the rest of the season and try to return to the best possible form in 2010", said Toni.

Asked about possible pressure that his pupil can now have to recover the No.1 lost to Roger Federer, Toni said that "not a lot of pressure exists". Rafa will return with the intention of going step by step, tournament by tournament and adding points". At the same time, the coach wanted to thank "the show of affection received on the part of everyone. Seeing the Davis Cup on television we saw the placards in Marbella encouraging Rafa and he as am I, are very grateful for that".

The Davis Cup, a competition that Spain would like to win again. "Spain has demonstrated, not only now but also last year in Argentina, that it can win with and without Rafa. The semi-final match is favourable to our interests and we hope to be able to win the Davis this year".

And this being with Rafa on court.
