One down ... one to go ...

Rafa opened his campaign against David Ferrer today and well ... I've seen better tennis matches.

Rafa started great with a break, and then lost it. And David brought it to Rafa again in the first set by constantly targeting his backhand, and I was getting pretty frustrated that Rafa wasn't finding a way to run round it and to start controlling the rallies with his forehand.

But if there was one thing he did pretty well today, it was serve. And as the match progressed, I think Daveed got more and more tired. Rafa won the first set by 6-4, and within a blink of an eye, he was 5-0 up in the second. Daveed won a service game, and then faced the wrath of my mouth as I screeched at the television set when he broke Rafa when he served for the match. Don't give me another GAAH match, Daveed please huh??

But then Rafa broke easily to take it, and whilst I think there was some fatigue shown by Rafa too, I was particularly pleased with his reaction at the end. I think he wanted this victory, both over Daveed and for what it means for him and this title. One match to go, Rafa, to secure Year End No. 1. Please honey ... just do it!!

  1. Wooffie: My thots exactly on the Daveed match, but he got thru. Taping the Stan match and will settle in with a glass of wine for the replay when I get home from work. My friends do make fun of me as I won't take calls of visitors during my "Rafa Time." Oh, and I want to be that towel!! keep up the good work. Soon we will be celebrating #1 for the year. He is already the "Comeback Palyer of the Year', and should be #1 and Player of the Year.
