The 5th Man ...

An article appeared in yesterday's New York Times featuring David Ferrer as a prelude to the build up to the Davis Cup.

Anyhow, have a read of it here, but for me, the things that David says about Rafa have truly the most resonance ...

“Not to say that I’m close to lots of stars and famous people, but Rafa is the most down-to-earth and humble star that I know,” Ferrer said. “Irrespective of how good a tennis player he is, I think he’s a better person than a tennis player. And I think we’re all lucky to have someone like Rafa, more because of the kind of person he is than because of the kind of tennis player he is. He’s normal. He plays tennis, but tennis is a sport and life goes on, and Rafa handles it really well. He doesn’t give more importance to tennis than it deserves. I see it the same way. Being an athlete is not worth more than another job. It’s just more recognized than most other jobs.”
We are all lucky to have somone like Rafa.   As we are with David.  Charming, lovely people ... both of them.
