Abanderado ...

Rafa left for the UK today *yahoo* ... no doubt to make sure he arrived before Asda's closing time so that he could do a bit of food shopping. ;) My Dad has a little job working in Asda ... not the Rafa branch I hasten to add. :(

Anyhow ... I'm talking codswallop on this very momentous day. Whilst TVE brought us the customary airport footage and Rafa with his hand in a box of Quely's (you'll need to go to Sainbury's for those, Rafa ;) ), it was finally announced formally that Rafa would be the flag bearer for Spain in this summer's Olympics.

A fine honour, and one that Spain has awarded to one of its most honourable citizens. I am delighted to hear the news.

Rafa is also absolutely touched with this gesture, and left the following comment on his Facebook ...
"It's an honour for me ot be the carrier of the Spanish flag at the London Olympics and I would like to thank all the Spanish Olympic federations for choosing me for this.
It's one of the happiest moments of my career.  Thanks to all and all the best of lucks to our Olympic team!"
Yes ... the best of lucks, Spain!  He also left this little message in Spanish ...

Well done again, Rafa. I can't wait to see you perform.
