Rafa looked very slim and handsome at his press conference, but he was also pretty vocal too. No more Players' Council for him so he can say whatever he likes as he represents nobody but himself, and he's said he's glad about that. So from a technical point of view, Rafa doesn't care for the new Smurf Turf, describing it as soft and slippery and also stating that the height of the advertising boards (also Smurf blue) lends itself difficult to see balls played at a certain height.
Whilst he doesn't directly blame Tiriac or the tournament sponsors for trying to introduce new innovations, he does level blame directly at the ATP and its now out-gone President stating that they should "never have allowed such a change at a tournament of this scale" in his native Spain. He's equally dis-satisfied with such a dramatic change at the heart of the clay court season with only Rome left before the next Slam at Roland Garros.
There doesn't seem to be too many happy Smurfs around at the moment.
Here's a short video clip of Rafa today with some discussion on the up-coming Olympics too ...
