From raining cats and dogs ... to raining water bottles

What a frustrating day.

From my humble abode in England, I'd known it would rain in Rome today because the social media was rampant with news of it. But still the ladies' final started at the allotted time, and then the rain delays began. Whilst they brought the women back on to finish up, there then became a bit of a farce with pitch inspections until the call to quit came.

And cue mayhem in the arena with the Italians showing their disgust as only they do, with the ceremonial lobbing of the water bottles. When we were in Rome two years ago, it was utterly frustrating after a magnificent week and fantastic weather for the final day to be ruined by rain. And whilst Rafa and David were brought back on to finish, God I was a miserable cow. I hate getting wet and I hate being cold and I was both. Half of the Italian crowd had given up by that stage and had cleared off home, but the match got finished and we could at least return home the next day happy. Unlike what some of the crowd will be feeling today.

However, its about the safety of the players at any time in the season, but especially so with a Slam coming up.  Equally, they're hardly going to play their best tennis in damp conditions with the cold, evening air setting in.

So I'll get to bite my nails and watch the Livescores at work tomorrow then ...

FORZA RAFA!!!
