Rafa in the Mayer ...

Well obviously I'm writing this the day after the event, and to be frank, because Rafa lost the match, I couldn't bring myself to watch it. The score was 6-7, 3-6. And perhaps if Rafa had taken that tie-breaker, it could have been one of those matches that he dragged himself through. By all accounts, Mayer's serve was sensational, Rafa's returning was dire. He never even earned a single break point ... not one ... and this is Rafael Nadal!! The backhand was consistently targeted, Rafa ran around it loads. Endless defence, playing on the backboards, doing nothing other slice, slice, slice.

This is man devoid of ideas, new tactics, confidence, energy, rhythm. I could weep.

He's going home to play golf and he looks like he could do with a total break. Toni was questioned by the Spanish media and in the inimitable way of his, gave him a right vote of confidence. And I'm joking by the way ... Pity he can't coach him out of this fug!!
